Value Delivered

EMCOR Services Betlem (Betlem) was selected by Semrock and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to complete an energy study of Semrock’s facility in Rochester, NY, under NYSERDA’s FlexTech Program.

The facility consisted of 20,850 square feet of mostly manufacturing space with some office and warehouse space. Additionally, Betlem worked with Semrock to determine the energy savings associated with the installation of an HC1 high volume thin film coating manufacturing cell.

The original energy study resulted in recommendations for energy saving measures costing $127,080 that would save Semrock $25,199 per year in utility costs. The second study resulted in recommendations that would save approximately 1,625,397 kWh per year.

Client Objectives

Semrock wanted to determine the energy savings associated with the manufacturing system upgrades as part of a large plant expansion and productivity increase.

Solutions

The new thin film coating machine was expected to produce as much as seven of the existing coaters that were in current use. So, based on the studies performed by Betlem, Semrock decided to implement all suggested improvements. They used proceeds from enrollment in NYSERDA’s Industrial Process and Efficiency programs to offset initial capital costs.

Client Background

Semrock, which is owned by Idex Corporation, manufactures optical lenses utilizing hard dielectric coatings on single glass substrates.
